Sebastian Vettel has watched Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen closely as their careers have developed, offering insight into how both drivers have changed with time and experience. Having raced against them at different stages, Vettel believes their growth has been clear and significant.
The four-time world champion feels Hamilton’s evolution is most visible in his mindset and composure. According to Vettel, the Mercedes driver has grown far more mature, learning how to manage high-pressure situations with calm and perspective.
Vettel pointed to Hamilton’s response to the controversial Abu Dhabi finale in 2021 as a defining example of that maturity. He believes Hamilton’s conduct in defeat showed how experience has shaped his character both on and off the track.
In contrast, Vettel explained that Verstappen’s development has been more about refinement than restraint. The Dutch driver, once known for relentless aggression, now applies his attacking instincts with greater precision.
With experience, Verstappen has learned when to strike and when to hold back, choosing the perfect moments to unleash his trademark overtakes. Vettel sees this calculated approach as a key factor behind Verstappen’s continued success at the front of Formula 1.
