Max Verstappen and Lando Norris are set to face a hefty financial obligation ahead of the new Formula 1 season, with both drivers required to pay more than one million euros for their FIA super licences.
The super licence is mandatory for all drivers competing in Formula 1 and its cost is partly determined by performance, meaning successful seasons often lead to significantly higher fees. Verstappen and Norris, both coming off strong campaigns, fall firmly into that category.
For Verstappen, his continued success at the front of the grid has once again resulted in one of the most expensive licence bills in the paddock. His achievements directly translate into higher costs under the FIA’s current pricing structure.
Norris, meanwhile, is also impacted after a standout season that elevated his status among the sport’s elite. His rise in results has been matched by a sharp increase in the amount he must pay to be cleared to race.
Together, the figures underline how costly top-level success in Formula 1 can be, even before a wheel is turned in competition. For Verstappen and Norris, the million-euro payments are the price of competing at the very highest level.
