Taylor Swift opened up about more than her Eras Tour docuseries and her engagement to Travis Kelce during her recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. She also tackled the commentary from people who feel she’s been at the top of the music industry for too long.
While speaking about career longevity, Swift listed the people she admires most—Stevie Nicks, Kelce, and longtime collaborator Max Martin. She highlighted Martin’s ability to evolve over decades, praising the consistency and reinvention that have kept his career thriving.
Swift explained that she values longevity in all parts of life—careers, friendships, and relationships. She said she is deeply inspired by people who manage to sustain success and keep improving over time.
But she acknowledged that not everyone celebrates endurance. Some critics, she noted, argue she should “step aside” or “give someone else a turn” because she has dominated music for years. Their message: disappear long enough for people to reminisce about how good she used to be.
Swift made it clear she has no intention of doing that. Responding directly to critics, she said she doesn’t plan on going anywhere, stressing that she enjoys creating music and intends to continue shaping her long-standing career.
