Red Bull may be preparing for another significant internal shift ahead of the 2026 Formula 1 season, with Max Verstappen potentially set to work with a new race engineer. This comes as long-time collaborator Gianpiero Lambiase is reportedly in discussions about leaving the Milton Keynes-based team.
Lambiase, widely known in the paddock as “GP,” has been a constant presence alongside Verstappen since the Dutch driver joined Red Bull’s senior team in 2016. Their partnership has become one of the most recognisable and successful driver–engineer pairings in modern Formula 1.
Over the years, Lambiase has played a central role in Verstappen’s rise to the top of the sport. He has guided the four-time world champion through race strategy, on-track decision-making, and countless high-pressure moments that defined Red Bull’s recent dominance.
With uncertainty surrounding Lambiase’s future, Red Bull are understood to have already planned for a possible transition. The team has reportedly identified a successor to ensure continuity and stability for Verstappen should his trusted engineer depart.
If the change goes ahead, it would mark the end of an era for Verstappen and Red Bull, while opening a new chapter in their pursuit of success under the 2026 regulations. Despite the potential shake-up, the team appears determined to keep Verstappen fully supported as they look to remain at the front of the grid.
