Portugal’s Portimão Circuit is set for an unexpected comeback to the Formula 1 calendar, having secured a two-year agreement that will see it host races in 2027 and 2028.
The Algarve-based venue will take the place of the Dutch Grand Prix, which is scheduled to leave the championship after the current calendar cycle, opening the door for Portimão’s return.
Portimão last appeared in Formula 1 during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, when the sport was forced to adapt its schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During those appearances, Lewis Hamilton dominated at the circuit, winning both races and further cementing the track’s reputation for producing competitive action.
Although the Portuguese Grand Prix was dropped from the calendar in 2022 as Formula 1 reverted to its traditional lineup of venues, officials have now confirmed that Portimão will once again host the sport’s elite with a confirmed two-year deal.
