It’s surprising to realize that this November will mark ten years since Rae Sremmurd reached number one with their Gucci Mane collaboration, “Black Beatles.” As that milestone approaches, the creative forces behind the song are reconnecting, clearly inspired by the legacy of that massive hit.At the center of the original success was Mike Will Made-It, Rae Sremmurd’s mentor and label head, who produced the song’s hypnotic, slightly new-wave-inspired instrumental. Complementing that production was Swae Lee, whose haunting melodic hook about the allure of rock stardom became one of the track’s defining elements. Now, Mike Will Made-It has released a new song titled “Rockstar Raging,” with Swae Lee taking the lead on vocals. The collaboration immediately draws attention because of the shared history between the two artists and the cultural weight of their earlier work. While “Rockstar Raging” isn’t a direct replica of “Black Beatles,” the similarities are hard to ignore. The new track leans more heavily on guitar-driven production, and Swae Lee’s hook follows a descending pattern rather than the floating, atmospheric melody of the original.Even so, the song strongly echoes the spirit of “Black Beatles,” almost functioning as a sequel. As a follow-up, it holds up remarkably well, to the point where it arguably could have been marketed as “Black Beatles Part 2” without feeling forced.
