McLaren CEO Zak Brown has expressed strong confidence in Oscar Piastri’s long-term future, insisting the young Australian will remain a major presence in Formula 1 for many years ahead.
Brown’s belief is rooted in Piastri’s impressive performance last season, during which he came remarkably close to securing the world championship and demonstrated maturity well beyond his experience.
The McLaren driver led the championship standings for an extended period, holding the top spot for 15 races across six months, beginning with the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in April and lasting until October.
Piastri was on course to become Australia’s first Formula 1 world champion since Alan Jones in 1980, before losing the lead late in the season at the Mexican Grand Prix.
By the end of the 24-race campaign, he narrowly missed out on the title, finishing 13 points behind team-mate Lando Norris, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen also ended the season ahead after a difficult final stretch.
