Lewis Hamilton’s time at Ferrari has come under renewed scrutiny following comments from former team principal Maurizio Arrivabene. The seven-time world champion joined the Scuderia amid huge expectations, but his first season with the team has been marked by frustration and inconsistency. As Ferrari continue to struggle to return to title-winning form, questions are now being raised about how strong the partnership really is behind the scenes.
Arrivabene has suggested that Hamilton’s habit of sending detailed technical “dossiers” to Ferrari management could be a warning sign rather than a positive contribution. While feedback from a driver is normally welcomed, the former boss believes the depth and tone of these reports may indicate deeper dissatisfaction. In his view, such actions can sometimes reflect a breakdown in trust or alignment between driver and team.
The Italian also implied that experienced drivers tend to resort to this level of detail only when they feel their concerns are not being fully addressed. Rather than symbolising leadership, Arrivabene argues it could point to growing tension, with Hamilton attempting to push change from outside the usual channels. That, he warned, is rarely a healthy sign for a long-term working relationship.
Ferrari’s current situation has done little to ease those concerns. The team ended the season without serious championship contention, extending a title drought that has already lasted more than a decade. For a driver of Hamilton’s stature, patience may be wearing thin as the results continue to fall short of expectations.
Despite the warning, Arrivabene stopped short of predicting an immediate split. However, he made it clear that unless Ferrari and Hamilton find better alignment, the relationship could deteriorate further. Whether the partnership stabilises or drifts closer to a breaking point may depend on how convincingly Ferrari respond to Hamilton’s demands in the seasons ahead.
