Despite Lando Norris securing the 2025 Formula 1 drivers’ championship, veteran pundit Martin Brundle has pointed out a specific quality that the British racer still doesn’t fully possess compared to his teammate, Oscar Piastri.
Brundle acknowledged Norris’ significant progress throughout the season, noting that his racecraft had improved markedly. These developments were crucial in helping him clinch the title, demonstrating his growth as a competitor on track.
However, Brundle emphasized that Piastri still holds an edge when it comes to one key skill: precise and audacious overtaking. He described Piastri’s maneuvering as “laser-guided” and daring, a level of boldness Norris has yet to match consistently.
The 66-year-old analyst also highlighted Norris’ tactical improvements, including sharper overtakes, stronger defensive driving, and better tyre management. He cited the Budapest Grand Prix, where Norris’ careful handling of his Pirelli tyres contributed to his victory, as an example of this enhanced strategic approach.
Ultimately, while Norris has clearly grown into a championship-winning driver, Brundle suggests that matching Piastri’s fearless overtaking remains an area for further development if he wants to maintain dominance in future seasons.
