Ruben Amorim reportedly advised Manchester United to bring in a new striker during the January transfer window, with £18m target Danny Welbeck among his preferred choices. This request came shortly before the club decided to part ways with him.
United made the decision to sack Amorim last week, appointing Michael Carrick as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The change in management has shifted the club’s focus, but Amorim’s recommendations were still noted before his exit.
Prior to leaving, Amorim highlighted that the club’s leadership had altered their approach to the January transfer window. He suggested that without adding a striker, the team might struggle to compete at the top of the Premier League.
Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett reported that United are unlikely to adjust their transfer strategy despite Carrick stepping in as head coach. The club’s priority appears to remain on long-term targets rather than short-term additions.
Amorim had been firm in his belief that signing an additional striker was essential to improving United’s chances of finishing in the top four. However, with the new management in place, it seems the January transfer plans will not be significantly changed.
