Sergio Perez has opened up about his time at Red Bull Racing, describing it as the toughest job of his Formula 1 career. The 35-year-old Mexican driver spent four years alongside Max Verstappen before being replaced in 2024.
Perez admitted that being Verstappen’s teammate came with immense pressure, as he had to constantly match the standards of a driver widely regarded as one of the best in F1 history. He suggested that the role tested him in ways no other team had.
He explained that the combination of high expectations, intense media scrutiny, and internal team pressures made his stint particularly challenging. Despite the difficulties, Perez acknowledged that the experience helped him grow as a driver.
The Mexican also reflected on the dynamic between himself and Verstappen, noting that while they shared mutual respect, competing with a dominant teammate was mentally and physically demanding. He revealed that he often felt his contributions were overshadowed by Verstappen’s consistent success.
Looking back, Perez described his Red Bull chapter as a mix of triumphs and struggles. Although it was a tough period, he emphasized that it shaped his career and prepared him for future opportunities in Formula 1.
