Lewis Hamilton’s difficult first season with Ferrari has been partly attributed to communication issues within the team. Former Formula 1 driver Karun Chandhok has suggested that problems in the dialogue between Hamilton and his race engineer played a significant role in the seven-time champion’s early struggles.
According to Chandhok, the partnership between Hamilton and engineer Riccardo Adami did not always function smoothly during races. Misunderstandings over instructions, strategy calls, and on-track feedback often appeared to disrupt Hamilton’s rhythm at crucial moments.
Such issues can be especially damaging when a driver is adapting to a new team environment. Hamilton’s move to Ferrari required him to adjust to different terminology, systems, and working methods, making clear and precise communication even more essential.
Chandhok noted that these challenges were visible during key races, where delayed or unclear messages seemed to cost Hamilton time and confidence. In a sport where split-second decisions matter, even minor miscommunication can have a major impact on results.
Despite the disappointing debut campaign, there is optimism that these problems are temporary. With more time working together, improved understanding between Hamilton and Adami could help unlock better performances and allow Ferrari to benefit fully from Hamilton’s experience and talent.
