Lewis Hamilton’s difficult 2025 campaign has sparked fresh speculation about his future in Formula 1, following what became the toughest season of his 19-year career. The seven-time world champion struggled to find form, prompting widespread discussion about whether retirement could be looming as the sport moves toward its 2026 regulations reset.
Much of the attention has centred on Hamilton’s private conversations and public remarks, which some within the paddock have interpreted as unusually reflective. These comments, combined with his on-track struggles, have fuelled talk that he may already be contemplating life beyond F1.
Sky Sports commentator David Croft highlighted how mentally draining the situation must be for Hamilton, particularly given his status in the sport. Croft noted that repeatedly being asked why performance has dropped and why results are not coming can be especially demoralising for a driver of Hamilton’s stature.
Despite the difficulties, Croft emphasised Hamilton’s fighting spirit, pointing out that resilience has defined much of his career. He stressed that Hamilton has always been a relentless competitor, capable of pushing through adversity even when circumstances are far from ideal.
Croft also reaffirmed his belief that Hamilton remains the greatest of all time, both on and off the track. While acknowledging the current struggles, he suggested that Hamilton’s legacy is already secure, regardless of how his final years in Formula 1 ultimately unfold.
